Intelligence = Error Correction

A minimalist definition of intelligence.

A minimalist definition of intelligence:

Intelligence = Error Correction

Intelligence is a function of how precisely and quickly something can iterate through this loop:

  1. Describe present reality
  2. Predict future reality
  3. Measure error between predicted and actual future reality
  4. Reduce error by improving (1) and (2)

[PS — This famous Albert Einstein quote is about the inverse (the inability to error correct): “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”]
