A minimalist definition of intelligence:
Intelligence = Error Correction
Intelligence is a function of how precisely and quickly something can iterate through this loop:
- Describe present reality
- Predict future reality
- Measure error between predicted and actual future reality
- Reduce error by improving (1) and (2)
[PS — This famous Albert Einstein quote is about the inverse (the inability to error correct): “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”]
